Have a domain and the idea for it, but still haven’t got around designing it? well it’s now time to start making those web pages for your site. This is the most exciting part believe me. If you don’t know HTML (the language used to create web pages) then don’t worry. I didn’t know HTML either when I first started and I still have lots to learn, however if you use a package like Microsoft FrontPage to design your pages then you shouldn’t have much problem and it will get you started. Microsoft FrontPage is designed in such a way that is user friendly and easy to use. It’s a bit like using Microsoft Word actually in that all the features are nearly the same. For example you still get the bold, italics, underline symbols and tools such as formatting bullets and numbering, fonts. bordering and shading and much more. In other words it lets you create your pages in a “word processor - like” environment while the program (FrontPage) writes all the coding for you in the background.

How do I get started?

There are for all intents and purposes three options, depending on the amount of customization and flexibility you want and on how much you are willing to learn.

  1. Website Templates: You can go for the easy option and choose a web design package which are nice looking, professional and can be used FREE for personal and business websites. This is ideal and probably most used option for novices. You should browse around the internet as there are so many companies offering either FREE or paid templates which are easily available for download. If you cant find a Free Template that suits your needs, there are many professional web templates and flash web templates to choose from too but some may charge a small fee for these. The great news is that you can also specify exactly what type of template you are looking for by performing a search by category which is made available by most sites. For example, if you are designing a website about hosting then you may be able to choose ‘hosting’ from the category listings.
  2. Using FrontPage: If you want to design the website yourself then as talked about above you can go for a HTML editor like Microsoft’s Front Page. With this solution you will need to learn a little more about HTML, but the advantage of doing this is you get the flexibility to make the changes and design the site exactly the way you want it to look.
  3. Freelance Web Designer: You could get someone else to design your site for you. There are many freelancers out their and you can place your project on a freelances website. In doing this you will get instant access to post your projects, search resumes, select candidates and manage your entire hiring process.
