That all depends on whom you host with but most of the time your plan should include the following:

  • Cpanel or helm functionality: This is a popular web-based administration tool that many hosting providers provide to allow users to organize their own accounts using an easy-to-use interface. Cpanel is provided for Linux hosting and helm is provided for Windows hosting.
  • Web Statistics: This will be offered to you in cpanel. Web Statistics can be used to track the number of visitors coming to your Web site. The reports will show you information such as how many hits your site has had, bandwidth used, most pages visited and lots more. Popular Web Statistics software include Awstats, Analog and Urchin.
  • Disk Space: Disk Space will usually be given in megabytes (MB) A certain amount of disk space will be allocated to you depending on which hosting package you decide to choose. If you are a new beginner with a site that doesn’t contain much graphics and images then I would recommend you need only 20-30 MB (megabytes) to start with. If you need more later then you can always upgrade.
  • Bandwidth: Another word used to describe this is the amount of traffic going to your site. Basically what happens is that when someone visits your site, they use a certain amount of what’s called “bandwidth” So the more visitors you have, the more bandwidth that is used up. Most web hosts measure bandwidth and set limits by the month. When deciding on how much bandwidth you will need, take the following into consideration
  1. How many users will access your web site?
  2. How many pages to be access?
  3. How big are the graphic and HTML files?

I would say that 400 - 500Mb is a good start and you shouldn’t need more than this for one month.

  • Email: Check how many email accounts you are allowed. Many offer unlimited email accounts. So if you have a company called AllOfWeb limited for example, then you have the option to create an email account like name@hostreviewdirect.org
